Elders In Leadership
Paul accepted Christ at the age of 20. Although he grew up in a church, it wasn't until then that his faith became "real" with a personal relationship with the Lord. Paul and his wife, Debbie, have been members of PCC since late 1996. They have two daughters that grew up at PCC, graduated from Pflugerville High School and now live in the Dallas area. Paul recently retired from his position as president of a credit union in Austin and is a graduate from The University of Texas.
Odafe grew up in a Christian home but didn't accept Christ until college. It was at college that he understood how to own his faith, that it is a "real personal relationship with Christ". Odafe & Mary, his wife, have been members of Pflugerville Community Church since the beginning. They have four adult children, three boys; two are working in the Dallas area & one in Seattle. Their daughter works with Dell Children's Hospital in Austin. Odafe has retired from the State of Texas and is currently a real estate broker. He graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and obtained a Master's Degree from UCT Killeen Texas. Odafe is the current president of ACF Austin, a chapter of ACF USA.
John grew up attending church regularly with his family and became active in the youth group, participating in regular meetings as well as youth summer mission trips. Growing up, he had heard that he needed to have a relationship with Jesus, but how to enter that relationship was unclear. He visited a church while attending college in Austin and, for the first time, understood how to accept Jesus' forgiveness for sin and start that relationship. John completely understands what it means to know "about Jesus, but not to know him personally. Since that time John has surrendered his life to full time service and feels a call to Missions. John and Karen, his wife of over 30 years, have served in several New Testament churches and has participated in many mission efforts, both within the United States as well as in Mexico. Besides Missions, John's passion includes Youth Ministry. John and Karen joined PCC in 2002 with their four children and are amazed with how the Lord works through this local body of believers to impact the world with God's love.
George Vande Werken
George grew up in a Christian home in the Chicago area and attended Christian schools from grade school through college and seminary. After graduation George felt called into business and spent his career working in various roles in community banking in the greater Chicago area. In 2015, George and his wife, Gayle, moved to Pflugerville to be closer to their two daughters and six of their twelve grandchildren. They joined PCC shortly after getting settled. They also have two sons, one in the Chicago area and another in the Boston area - and six more grandchildren between the two. George is also passionate about fostering local economic development and enjoys being engaged in public transportation policy discussion.
George has served as a board member for numerous non-profit ministries and public entities and enjoys working with others to foster collaboration and teamwork. God has continued to impress him with the significance of the need for grace in all our lives, and he believes the church is the one place where the meaning of grace can be nurtured and lived out. George and Gayle appreciate the fellowship and support of the PCC community and hope to work with other members to build on the good foundation already here.
